Screening of “EVANGELION: 2.0 YOU CAN (NOT) ADVANCE.” in LA

EVANGELION 2.0 at Downtown Independent in LA

Evangelion fans in America will finally see it on the big screen!!!!

April 05, 2011

Ever since the anime series debuted in 1995, its popularity has grown from Japan to around the world.

It has been a long and, for fans outside of Japan, a frustrating wait, but in January 2011, Eleven Arts and FANimation Entertainment brought the sequel of the new EVANGELION series to theaters across North America.

The downtown independent theater in LA screened the movie from January 28 to February 3. We, POPJNEO, attended on Friday January 28th.

A large number of people gathered because all the seats in the theater were filled with fans eager to see the new history of the EVANGELION series.

Unlike the first movie, “EVANGELION: 1.0 YOU ARE (NOT) ALONE.”, the plot is different from the original series which is one of the reasons why there are still a lot of enthusiastic fans.

The movie starts with a new evangelion pilot Mari fighting with the Third Angel in Provisional Unit-05. She is an original character; however, this story does not reveal much about her except that she will be playing an important role in the next installment.

The critiques of the audience were good -- most of the fans we interviewed afterwards had previously watched the TV anime series and said they enjoyed the originality of the movie.

The end credits offered a sneak peek into the title of the third movie-- “Evangelion Gekijoban: Q quickening”. No word yet on the english title or its opening day, only anticipation that the new story will be better than the last!
